This song was written by Kanalu G.T Young and Kevin K.J. Chang in honor of Kanalu’s cousin Ernesto Santiago Pali de Quintana, a Mexican-Hawaiian scholar of middle east history and politics. He passed away after his struggle with AIDS in the heyday of that epidemic. It speaks to the connections of family between Hawai’i and Mexico, the hybridity of the people through language and the ascendency of a good soul to the heavens.
